Training Local Divemasters & Instructors on Nusa Lembongan

Here at Blue Corner Dive we pride ourselves in giving back to the local community on our beautiful island. One of the ways in which we help to support the local economy is by employing local staff in our Dive Centers, restaurant and bar.

After being given full training in the job they will be initially employed as, we then encourage pathways of development – most commonly starting in the bar, learning to dive, and eventually becoming a Divemaster or PADI Instructor– we encourage all of our team to be the best that they can be and we offer them full support in whichever field they choose to excel in.

The schools and standards of education on Nusa Lembongan, like many developing areas, can be low, and to become a PADI Divemaster or PADI Instructor takes a huge commitment and dedication from the individuals to build foundations. Luckily, we match that commitment and dedication in our own way.  Quite often, prior to even beginning dive training, our staff works tirelessly to develop their English language skills, and overcome the natural shyness which comes with speaking a foreign language to guests.

Many of the locals only attend school up the age of 13 or 14, and are not given the opportunity to develop good studying skills. Together we work hard to build core learning and basic math skills. When our candidates pass the theory tests needed to become a diving professional, it comes as an incredible personal achievement that we take pride in.

How Do Blue Corner Guests Benefit from Our Local Training Programs?

By training and employing local Divemasters and Instructors, we can provide a balanced team overflowing with different skills, cultures and ideas. Our most experienced local instructors, many of which have been with us from the beginning, provide our guests with invaluable insight on conditions, currents and marine life that only decades of experience can lend. There is no substitute for time spent in local waters, and culturally, the ocean is fiercely respected.

Our Blue Corner Dive local Instructors train with us on sponsorship programs and are then employed by Blue Corner Dive. They build excellent reputations for themselves, based on their expertise, diving skills, local knowledge and tenacity for teaching – we consider ourselves extremely privileged that they have chosen to be a part of our team.

His clear explanations and directed encouragement have helped countless divers overcome their anxieties, build their confidence, and fall in love with diving. Made loves teaching courses of all levels from complete beginners through to those taking professional level courses.

Made G is intimately immersed in the local Balinese culture, and can provide valuable insight into what can come across as the chaos of ceremonies, holidays and celebrations. He encourages guests and other staff to actively take part in these aspects of the island, and in doing so creates a sense of community.
