Activities in Paradise - 8 Ways to Stay Fit on Nusa Lembongan

Nusa Lembongan is known for its epic dives, beautiful reefs, Mantas, and chill vibes. But diving is only one element that draws daily groups of tourists from Bali. Nusa Lembongan has so much more to offer. And there are lots of ways to stay fit and active around the island.

At Blue Corner, we specialize in scuba diving and freediving. Both are awesome, but if you aren't a diver you can diversify your activities while staying on the island. Below you ́ll find a list of the top 8 things you can do to stay fit on Nusa Lembongan.

Surfing

Our dreamy island is home to some world-class waves. But. Compared to Bali or the rest of Indonesia, the surf on Nusa Lembongan is rather unstable and a lot harder to reach. If surfing is your way to stay fit, you can rent a board at the beach or buy a used one in the community. Surfing is our #1 alternative to diving when it comes to staying fit on Nusa Lembongan. And we are spoiled. Only a few islands around Bali are home to an activity like surfing.

Our surf spots consist of 4 main spots and 2 rather fickle ones. The 4 main surf spots are Playgrounds, Lacerations, Razors, and Shipwrecks.

Be careful when surfing here though! We are not in Bali. The waves are only good when it´s medium or high tide. When the tide is lowering, the breaks turn into shallows with tourists getting scraped up on the reef. The best thing is to talk to the locals and surf when they surf. When it´s crowded, go surf. When it´s not, don´t. If you still go, good luck.

Yoga

The yoga movement in Bali is huge but it has also made it to Nusa Lembongan. We know because yoga enthusiasts are usually great freedivers. They often join us for freediving sessions at Blue Corner. Both sports share the same values and combine a healthy body with a calm mind.

There a few yoga studios, resorts, and private teachers to choose from. You will definitely be able to stay on top of your yoga routine and stay fit. Sweaty Power Yoga, Vinyasa Flow, a stretchy Yin class or even YYT (Yoga Teacher Training). The options you have are manifold. You choose. Nusa Lembongan offers the perfect vibes for a yoga session followed by a deep meditation, if you ask us.

Freediving

We mentioned it. If you love yoga and the ocean, chances are that you will love freediving just as much! But what is freediving? Instagram is full of real-life mermaids and mermen nowadays. We see parts of the diving community ditch the tank to float effortlessly with nothing but fins and a mask. It is the new sexy!

Freediving is also a proper sport and exercises both body and mind. A great way to stay fit in many ways. At Blue Corner, we teach our SCUBA students to calm themselves underwater. Slowing down, taking a deep breath, and, if it helps them, closing their eyes are common ways. Freediving includes even more techniques for calming both body and mind. Most of them are beneficial when approaching problems on SCUBA or everyday life.

We currently have two well-established and one opening-soon shop on the island. Needless to say that the sport has arrived on Nusa Lembongan. Blue Corner is one of the established shops. You can try other shops at your own risk and significantly reduced sexiness. Jokes. But we have the best instructor. Some say he is sexy. Come find out yourself.

Stand Up Paddleboarding

We see them all the time when we are sipping beers at the Blue Corner Beach Bar while staring into the sunset. Looks fun. SUP (Stand Up Paddleboarding) has become a big part of Nusa Lembongan’s water sports culture. It’s fun, easier than surfing and known as one of the best workouts out there. So instead of burning at the beach, you can now burn while exercising and floating in crystal clear water. It’s lobster season on Nusa Lembongan. Was that a joke?

Running

Running… some love it, most… well... If you love it, Nusa Lembongan is a great place to go for a run. With less traffic than on Bali, the roads are in good condition and safer to run on. When running through the villages you can find some hills to start your exercise with. Enjoy some friendly waves from the friendly local villagers along the way and the day is yours. If you prefer flat, sheltered roads you can run through the mangroves.

A local tip: Have an early morning run to enjoy the sunset as well as empty streets and cooler air and stay hydrated.

Cycling

Nusa Lembongan is approximately 13 km all around and home to both hills and flat surfaces. So renting a bike instead of a scooter and exploring the island that way is a great way to enjoy the scenery and keep fit.

It’s also much better for our environment and will result in a good amount of smiles all around the island. When cycling, make sure to prepare yourself. Consider the climate and take enough water to stay hydrated and alert. Passing trucks can be a threat to pedestrians and cyclists.

Soccer

We don’t have indoor soccer fields like on Bali.  But if ball games and juggling are your jam you can visit the local soccer pitch. Locals are often playing and are usually happy to welcome a foreign face to have a scrimmage with. Having a match with the locals is a good way to stay fit and get closer to culture and people on Nusa Lembongan.

Gym

Aaaand last but not least. The gym. Everyone knows it, everyone has signed up at least once in their lives. But do you actually go? If you want to stay fit and enjoy lifting weights, we have a couple of options for you. Nusa Lembongan is home to 2 membership gyms: K Gym and a gym at Tamarind Resort. While K Gym is then more local budget option, the membership at Tamarind Resort is your luxury version on Nusa Lembongan.

Now, if you are going for the budget version, please don’t expect too much. The shop front at K Gym says gym and you will be able to lift. But don’t expect to find the shiny, air-conditioned spa with sauna kind of gym you know from back home or in Bali. The rusty gym lovers among you will love it. And it’s a great way to stay fit. You will get sweaty, we promise you that!

Tamarind Resort, however, prides itself the only professional equipped gym on Nusa Lembongan. The extra amount you spend will be invested in an air condition and international five star equipment.

Wrapping it up: Nusa Lembongan has everything you need to escape the hassle in Bali. Enjoy the island vibes and stay fit in a healthy environment. Visit our beautiful island, be active and stay fit. Oh and don´t forget to swing by for cold drinks, snacks and sunset sessions at our Blue Corner Beach Bar. Trust us. We will make sure to give you a reason to stay active and fit.
